Dream It Believe It Achieve It met our first winner of £3000 in the glamorous location of the Madejski hotel in Reading/

Rob Yealdon with his wife was to say the least a very pleased man , collecting a cheque for £3000 on a Friday afternoon wasn’t a chore!

Back in May (he thinks) Rob had been at work in Twyford village when two F.R’s had approached him. He felt very much at ease with “no pressure sell” at all and purchased £25 worth of scratch cards.

There was a real sense of community spirit in his village as the Jubilee had just been and gone and were now in full swing of the Olympic spirit followed by the Paralympics.

DBA's First Bonus Prize Winner – Rob

The F.R’s had run through the cause in which they were representing and Rob felt a real sense of pride of what they were doing and happily purchased the cards.

As a lottery player, with very little success winning was never part of the process. So when a few months later the call came from Matt he first “thought it was a PPI sales call!”

He couldn’t really hear what Matt was trying to say due to bad signal but was over the moon when the message became clear.

At first Rob didn’t know how to react, “this doesn’t normally happen to me” said Rob, he soon got over it. He didn’t know what he was going to spend his winnings on, his wife saying the money will be put aside for a rainy day and Rob mentioning exotic holidays!

Rob wanted to reiterate that he really thought it was a great cause and a brilliant idea of Matt. Matt added that it was so nice to hear Rob’s buying/supporting experience and so, so pleased that there was “no pressure selling” from our Field Rep’s.

Rob would not hesitate purchasing more scratch cards in the future, not just because he had won but “a great way to support causes that matter and make a difference.”

There’s a place where courage has many faces …a home for dreams where belief comes through the door with a first name …a caring organisation where dreams are nourished and inspirational people strive daily to achieve incredible goals. This place is unlike any other in the world. This is Dream It Believe It Achieve It (DBA).

Today letters were sent to all of the owners of Premier League Clubs asking them to pledge their support to “Dream It Believe It Achieve It”. How many supporters will we attract? We’ll keep you posted! Letter below.

Team 2012 was launched in September at the London 2012 Olympic Stadium, with leading payment system Visa announced as its Presenting Partner. It represents a huge new ambition for British sport, and is the largest national team ever sponsored, comprising approximately 1200 athletes from 47 sports and disciplines, Olympic and Paralympic alike.

Team 2012 aim is to help realise the dreams and ambitions of all Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes and is a groundbreaking partnership between the British Olympic and Paralympic Associations (BOA and BPA), the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), and UK Sport.

Two sports were excluded from Team 2012, Football and Tennis. Why were these sports excluded? The reason is because of UK Sport’s perceived wealth in the sports, Football and Tennis are deemed able to self fund.

The Paralympic GB Football team are extremely disappointed by this decision. After competing at the Beijing Paralympics it became evident that medals are won by athletes who are able to train and compete full time. The decision not to fund the team leaves us facing the prospect of competing at the worlds biggest sporting event without a realistic medal chance.
We have formed our own charity, “Dream It, Believe It, Achieve It” with the intent of raising the funds ourselves. Our desire to win a medal will drive our fundraising.

We are writing to you today asking you to pledge your support to the team. The more we can raise awareness of our cause, the more likely we are to raise the funds we need. We would like to stress that this is not a request for a donation, but is a request for support. Our aim is to raise the funds that we need through a series of high profile events, to include a Charity Golf Day, Charity Legends Football Match, Charity Corporate Sevens Tournament and a Charity Ball. We also have planned Charity Collections throughout the UK.

Of course should you choose to make a donation, sponsor, or take part in one of these events then as a Team we would be grateful. Further details can be provided by request.

We aim to start our fundraising programme with a sponsored cycle ride that will visit all of the Premier League and Championship Football Clubs. At each club letters will be distributed to the players asking them to also pledge their support to the cause.

You may also like to help by using the Charity Shopping Portal and Search Provider BeKindTo.com. By using BeKindTo.com you can be part of this campaign. Please, pledge your support now!

On behalf of the Team GB Paralympic Football Team and “Dream It, Believe It, Achieve It” I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and wish you every success in the future.

In a tight game on Sunday, Scotland started more positively than The Three Lions although they never created any real chances during the first ten minutes. England then began to settle down and the midfield of Matt Ellis and Man of the Match Michael Barker worked tirelessly and created a hatful of chances.

The match-winner came in the 19th minute when Barker spectacularly scored from 55 metres. A Scotland goalkick was cleared by England, out to Barker who saw the Scotland ‘keeper, Craig Connell, off his line. He volleyed the ball the length of the pitch and Connell misjudged the bounce, only to watch it soar over his head and into an empty net.

Scotland attacked but were repelled by the impressive defence of Townshend, Wilson and Dimbylow, who marshalled the back line superbly. In the final minutes Scotland threw everything at England but The Three Lions held firm.

After collecting the trophy captain Jordan Raynes said: “To win the last two games continues to show the improvement of this team of players.

“After winning the Arafura Games we were determined to carry on with the run and win another piece of silverware. I was very proud to lift the trophy on behalf of the players and believe we can only improve.”

National Development Manager for disability football, Jeff Davis, echoed Raynes words.“When Head coach Lyndon Lynch first took charge of the team he was determined to improve on the team’s world ranking and build a team who are confident and have self belief,” he said.

“We have not lost in the last nine competitive games, winning eight of these games and scoring 31 goals and conceding only two. The result against Ireland was particularly pleasing as they are ranked two places above England.

“We continue to improve and are always looking for players to strengthen the squad. Any player who was born with CP or have acquired a head injury i.e. through a head trauma (car crash) or meningitis, and is playing regular football, may have a opportunity to be considered for the squad.”

As part of the development competition England won all their matches, beating Scotland 2-1, Northern Ireland 3-1 and the Republic of Ireland 8-0. This tournament gave many players their first experience of international matches.

Australia 0-2 England Arafura Games 2009 Cerebral Palsy seven-a-side tournament
The Final 11am, Sunday 17 May 2009 Marrara Stadium, Darwin, Australia

The England Cerebral Palsy team beat Australia 2-0 in the Marrara Stadium to win the gold medal match of the Arafura Games, giving them their first competitive tournament win.

Playing five games in six days England displayed supreme fitness and endurance, scoring 27 goals during the tournament and conceding none.

The Three Lions started briskly and created a number of opportunities in the opening moments. Indeed, on four minutes Michael Wilson hammered home an 18-yard free-kick to give England the lead. Lyndon Lynch’s side then grew in confidence but the Australians defended resolutely and blocked many efforts on goal. The visitors were made to wait until the second minute of time added on to double their advantage. Matt Ellis played Richard Fox through on goal and the latter struck a firm shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

The second half was not as eventful as the first as the weather conditions began to take their toll. Playing in 35C heat affected the hosts more than the English players and Ellis and Michael Barker were at the heart of every England attack. In fact it wasn’t until the 54th minute that Australia had their first shot on goal.

The final whistle was met with jubilant celebrations among the English contingent and Lynch later spoke of his joy.

Speaking to TheFA.com, Head Coach Lyndon Lynch commented: “I am immensely proud of the achievements of this group of players who have once again demonstrated the depth of talent in English disability football.

“Each squad member made an important contribution to winning this trophy, which acts as a stepping stone to what we hope will be a successful European and World Championship campaigns. I must highlight the significant contribution of all the staff that is a vital element of any winning team.”

Jeff Davis, The FA National Development Manager for Disability Football, echoed Lynch’s sentiments.

“This team demonstrates a key goal of The FA Strategy of winning England Teams,” he said.

“I am delighted that Lyndon was able to give five new caps and is a vindication that the talent identification programme is working. I would like to thank all the players and staff and for those involved with the development of disability football at a local level and in the England CP development squad. This is only the start but I am really looking forward to the future championships.”
